Needles and stitch have always been a part of my life. My mum taught me many of the needle crafts. She was the village dressmaker and was an experienced knitter and embroiderer, she enjoyed smocking, patchwork and crochet. I too enjoy all of these crafts except crochet.
up until 1995 / 96 my main hobbies were knitting, cross stitch kits and occasionally surface embroidery. Then In 1996 I lost a very close friend, and later the same year I lost my mum, this had a profound effect on me. I was working on night duty as a carer in a nursing home at the time, I was tired and depressed. I decided I wanted and needed a challenge.
I enrolled on a City & Guilds, design, and embroidery course. I have never looked back, I went on to do a teaching course and taught City & Guild design, embroidery and machine embroidery up to diploma level, for Adult Education at Walford and North Shropshire College in Oswestry Shropshire.
After completing City & Guilds I joined Meniscus, an exhibiting group of 15 textile artists mentored by Cherilyn Tyler.
I exhibited several times (see list) with them and reluctantly left in 2011 to move on to a new phase of my life in pastures new.
In August 2011 My husband Geoff, and I, our dog Tink and rabbit, Bugs arrived in Rhodes Greece to live on an Olive grove we had bought a few years earlier.
This was where I spent my days stitching, reading and knitting for the next 5 years, until unexpectedly my wonderful husband passed away in February 2016.
Unable to manage to live without him in Rhodes, I am now back to my roots, friends and family in Ellesmere, Shropshire to continue my love of stitch in all it's many forms. as I move forward into the next chapter of my life.
